Brooklyn resident, Cass McCombs new song ‘Run Sister Run’ draws from the rhythmic and pulsating atmosphere of New York’s streets and subways to bring us his new percussive, beat-poet influenced, anti-establishment ode to Cecily McMillan, the Occupy Wall Street protester who was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment on May 5th for defending herself against police. Cass McCombs, who has himself both attended and performed at Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, calls on men to “respect your sister and respect your Queen”.

A press release further details:

“The political impact of corporate greed and bias appear all throughout Mangy Love, but are most bluntly tackled in this new single, titled as a mantra for a misogynistic justice system. Inspired by Occupy Wall Street protester Cecily McMillan, who was imprisoned for defending herself against police, the song jabs at the Supreme Court, calling it the ‘highest authority…on Cheez Whiz.”

‘Run Sister Run’ is to be released as part of Cass McCombs’ 10th studio album Mangy Love on August 26th, his first album since signing with indi label ANTI- (Kate Bush, Tom Waits, Wilco). Cass McCombs released another song from his eagerly anticipated 12-track LP, Mangy Love earlier this year entitled ‘Opposite House’ in which he collaborated with fellow indie-folk singer, Angel Olsen (no relation to the Olsen twins). Mangy Love is produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Beck) and Dan Horne (Hymns, The Chapin Sisters) with songwriter/producer Blake Mills also featured on the album. Cass McCombs is currently in the middle of a North American tour, but will hopefully visit our shores in 2017. Anyone who has had the privilege to see Cass McCombs and his band at work will know what a veritable sonic and visual feast for the senses his shows are. Fingers crossed!!!
