Alexa Chung Announces Fashion Brand

She’s a former model and contributing editor for Vogue, and has several different collaborations with major fashion brands under her belt, so it comes as no surprise that loveable British TV presenter Alexa Chung has announced plans to debut her own label in 2017.

In an interview with BOF this week, Chung shared her plans to create her own fashion line to debut in May of next year, stating that after years of collaborations with other labels, she has finally developed the confidence necessary to start her own, which will be simply titled ‘Alexachung’.

“I feel as though I’m kind of prepared to do it now. If it had been any time sooner than this, I either wouldn’t be responsible enough or have been able to take on this kind of feat.”

The 32-year-old has already organised her design team, which will consist of 6 individuals with experience in a range of different fields, including music, fashion and art. This small bit of information adds an extra level of intrigue into Chung’s new line, as it gives us the impression this won’t just be a straightforward fashion label looking to make high-end designs the average individual only ever dreams of wearing.

Instead, it seems as though she’ll be working to create high-end designs representative of current fashion trends, while still accessible to the average consumer, which was explained in her interview with BOF.

“How we present is going to be something we need to really think about. I know how the fashion industry stands today and how it’s changing very rapidly. I want to make sure that we are offering something that is exciting and unique and new, but also the point of this brand is that it connects to everyone,”

“I’m not making something that has got a crazy high price point. I want to make sure its something that is speaking to just everyone on the street.”

With this in mind, Chung’s new brand makes for an exciting prospect for the fashion industry, and of course for fans of the model who have spent years trying to copy her style, having carved out her own little spot in the fashion world as an icon due to her ability to make anything from loafers to frilled collars and floral suits look fashionable.

It’s also worth noting this label could give Alexa Chung the perfect platform to make some sort of change in the industry, considering she quit modelling after having developed her own insecurities regarding her body, something she discusses quite openly.

It’s clearly an issue Chung herself feels very strongly about, thus creating her own line means she could tackle the issue head-on, from the designs themselves to the models used in the brands campaigns.

While we are still a year away from seeing Chung’s vision come to life, if she does manage to achieve her goal of making high-end designs at an affordable price that everyone and anyone could wear, Alexa Chung could end up becoming much more than just a style icon and cement herself as one of fashion’s leading designers for years to come.
