We Urge You, Don’t Sleep On Mr. Robot

The dark tantalising thriller that is Mr. Robot, has been renewed by the USA Network for a third season, an exciting development for a show that is quickly developing a cult following.

Currently in the midst of its Season 2 run, Mr. Robot, which has been considered to be one of the best and most stylish new television dramas, has already been picked up for another season.

When you hear the name Mr. Robot, you’re probably going to imagine a children’s television show about a tie-wearing robot who has a job at a bank and is respected by his peers… And well to some extent that would be correct. Only flipped on it’s head.

Just to be clear there isn’t actually a robot, nor is this a children’s show. Mr. Robot is a drama series that treads a dark path in order to examine some well known concerns of today. From capitalism, to dependance on technology, and the illusion of control, the show follows the warped and drug addled mind of cyber-security engineer Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek). Recruited by an underground vigilante hacker group called ‘fsociety’, Elliot must assist in the destruction of ‘Evil Corp’, aka the exact corporation that he is paid to protect. Whilst the chaos unfolds, we also see Elliot struggle mentally. As he faces both internal and external stresses he begins to disconnect from reality, beginning to question what is real and what is not.

Though it is Malek who predominately drives the show, the supporting cast members each bring their own qualities. From Christian Slater’s intense portrayal of the title character, Mr. Robot, to Carly Chaikin’s uncompromising attitude as Darlene, or Martin Wallström’s enigmatic performance as Tyrell Wellick. Each adds to the overall atmosphere that clouds the show and leaves the viewer feeling uncertain of what they have just watched and puzzled as to what will happen next. Here lies why the show is so enthralling.

Created by television newcomer, Sam Esmail, the show was received well by critics and audiences alike. For its first season the show managed to grab an array of accolades including 2 Golden Globes; best television drama and best supporting actor (Christian Slater). This in turn made Mr. Robot the USA Network’s most acclaimed show to date. With the continued success of Season 2 so far, it makes sense that it be renewed for a third season.

So seriously, don’t sleep on this television show. If you haven’t yet watched Mr. Robot, peep the trailer for season 1 above. If you have seen it then let us know your opinions on the show and what could potentially happen in the next season.
