It’s here – finally! It’s been fourteen long years after we saw Hugh Grant in the seat of the British Prime Minister, flirting his way into the heart of house maid Natalie. Fourteen years after Andrew Lincoln conveyed his emotions to Juliet through the infamous cue cards at her doorstep. Fourteen years after Colin Firth proposed to Aurélia in front of her happy, loud family… Finally, after fourteen years, we’re going to get some answers.
Director and writer of the parent film, Richard Curtis, who has other classic romantic films like Bridget Jones Diaries 1 and 2, Notting Hill, and Four Weddings and a Funeral under his hat, is super excited about the new movie, claiming:
“ I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love Actually, but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is now up to. Who has aged best – I guess that’s the big question… or is it so obviously Liam?”
Before you cut the cake and pull out the campaign, be warned though, there’s a catch. The sequel isn’t going to be a feature-length film. Curtis will write the 10-minute film, called Red Nose Actually, in partnership with UK-based charity Comic Relief, which raises awareness about poverty and social injustices around the world.
Love Actually was a huge success when first hit cinemas back in 2003, raking in more than $US240 million at the box office. Since then, it has become a fort of romantic Christmas classic.
However, the story for the sequel is still in the works and no one really knows what to speculate about. The one thing that fans are expecting to see for sure is a small tribute to the late Alan Rickman, who starred in the original film, but sadly died last year.
What we do know is that almost all of the original cast is set to return for the new film. So probably a lot of questions about where their lives are now are set to be answered.
The general consensus seems to be that the film will air on BBC One on March 24, and then on NBC a couple months later on May 25th. We would suggest marking the date down on your calendars.
