Just from the trailer alone, this new original film is enough to have you sitting on the edge of your seat with full-body goosebumps.

Hulu has described the adaptation as “the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead”. The film deals with issues surrounding environmental disasters, a widespread infertility and a fundamental regime that is trying to repopulate by forcing and enslaving the few remaining women fertile women, who become known as The Handmaids.

The trailer follows Offred (Of-Fred, signifying her current commanders name), played by Elisabeth Moss, and her defiance to follow the religious government. In a tale of survival, Offred must survive the society where even one wrong word could end here life. She still remembers her life before it was turned upside down. A life where she was married with a daughter. The film follows her quest to find the daughter who was ripped out of her hands by her oppressors.

The trailer opens with some of the most chilling lines that hits close to home for a lot of American viewers with their current political climate. The series has gained a lot of interest after being compared to Donald Trump and the increased focus that came with the U.S election.

“I was asleep before. That’s how we let it happen. When they slaughtered congress, we didn’t wake up. When they blamed terrorist and suspended the constitution, we didn’t wake up then either… Now I’m awake.”

The first three episodes will premiere on the streaming service Hulu on April 26 with the subsequent seven episodes airing on a weekly basis. The series also features Orange Is The New Black‘s Samira Wiley and Gilmore Girls’s Alexis Bledel. An Australian broadcaster has not yet been announced. Here’s to hoping we get to watch this series unfold ASAP.
