Overnight Edward Enninful was announced to be the next Editor-in-chief of the British subsidiary of fashion magazine Vogue.
The appointment of Enninful as editor-in-chief of British Vogue is resonant of the changes that are sweeping the global fashion industry.
Taking over from the current editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman on the 1st of August, Enninful will be; as suggested in the The Guardian; the “first male editor in its 101-year history, and the first ever black editor of a mainstream British style magazine.”.
Enninful has over two decades of experience in the fashion industry including his work as a model, as fashion editor for British magazine i-D, then later American and Italian Vogue, his previous role was fashion editor for W Magazine; which he has been working as since 2011.
Johnathon Newhouse, Condé Nast International chairman and chief executive; praised Enninful as “an influential figure in the communities of fashion” and stated that he is ” supremely prepared to assume the responsibility of British Vogue.”.
