Wrap your ears around some retro tunes with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy’s, Awesome Mix Vol. 2.
Ahead of the release of highly anticipated, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Director James Gunn unveiled the track listing for the accompanying soundtrack to the film. Titled, Awesome Mix Vol. 2, the album follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by including those tracks you totally forgot about and say “Hey I love this song!” when listening to it. It’s just not ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ without some classic retro-rock added to the mix…
The album features some more well-known artists, complimentary of the freedom a larger budget provides. Awesome Mix Vol. 2 features the likes of Fleetwood Mac, George Harrison and Cat Stevens, to name a few. The album opens with a classic by Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘Mr. Blue Sky’, with it’s gleeful melody and subtle dark undertone. The last song featured is an unreleased original track, co-composed by James Gunn. ‘Guardians Inferno’ by The Sneepers ft. David Hasselhoff, a fictional band is a throwback to a race of aliens of the same name featured in Marvel comics. And the Hoff is just an added bonus of course.
During pre-production of the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, Marvel doubted Gunn’s choice in music saying that nobody would want to hear it. However, the soundtrack was received just as well as movie and was an instant hit, filled with underdog artists. “They were songs that people had heard but probably didn’t know the name of” says Gunn. The film itself was about an underdog, ragtag group of heroes, so it would make sense that they would be accompanied by complimentary artists. The soundtrack, Awesome Mix Vol. 1, went platinum in America and 2x platinum in Australia and selling over 2.5 million units worldwide.
The soundtrack is available on April 21st and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releases next week on April 25th.
