5 New Tracks You Need In Your Life This Week

There is so much new music being released constantly on the internet but we have sifted through all of that convoluted mess to find you our five favourite new tracks.

Kardajala Kirridarra – Ngabaja (Grandmothers Song)

Kadajala Kirridarra was conceived when Eleanor Dixon and Beatrice Lewis met through an initiative by the Barkly Regional Council to encourage the creative sharing of stories by the youth in the area. The duo was later joined by Janey ‘Namija’ Dixon and Kayla Jackson and here they developed their mandate of female empowerment for all ages through music. The quartet pride themselves on synthesizing traditional and modern sounds. We will be waiting in anticipation for the release of their self-titled debut album on July 7th, which will feature the amiable, tributary track Ngabaju (Grandmother’s Song).

Wafia – 83 Days

It has been a year since we were blessed with new music from the heavenly vocalist Wafia. In an interview with Best Before she explained “This song comes after someone I love wouldn’t stay. I developed an obsession with noting down the ways their absence was so loud and present. How intangible they had become. How intangible the memories I was left with are.” Not to worry though, she has been busy in the recording studio releasing collaborations with Ta-ku and Thrupence as well as putting her own E.P. in the works. The new E.P. is expected to be released through Future Classic later this year and will be the second E.P. from the 23 year old.

Cloves – California Numb

The song has been released in anticipation of the Melbourne-born musician’s debut album and just as she is supporting Michael Kiwanuka in his sold-out US tour. “California Numb is about catching yourself off guard” explains Cloves, continuing “It’s about the moment you realise you’re becoming somebody you don’t want to be, the idea of losing yourself in something or someone else you shouldn’t be influenced by, and having to claw yourself back.” Cloves simultaneously delicate and strong voice along with her undeniably arresting songwriting abilities makes her one to look out for this year.

Sunny & Gabe – Vacay

This is the most infectious song you are going to hear all day, prepare to get up and dance the second this song starts playing. The song has been featured on the most recent summer ad campaign for Coke in the US, so you can guarantee you will be hearing this funky track for the next few months. The producer Gabe spoke on the song saying “Well the song came about when I made the initial skeleton of the beat…I sent it to Sunny and just said ‘vacation’ and she immediately activated by recording a rap verse…she recorded the whole thing literally laying in bed.” He went on to promise more fun tunes soon.

Ladi6 – Beffy

Ladi6 makes the kind of electronic hip-hop music you can vibe to and never get enough of. The single ‘Beffy’ is from her soon to be released E.P. Royal Blue 3000, which already has had released this and the single ‘Guru’. New Zealander Karoline Tomati aka Ladi6 is a seasoned musician having already released 3 beautiful albums previously, the first in 2008 and earning comparisons to lengendary artists such as Erykah Badu.
