From optimistic city manager to supernatural super sleuth? Rob Lowe is hauling his sons off on a trans-continental reconnaissance of mysterious phenomena.
The A&E Network has released a first look trailer of Rob Lowe’s forthcoming docuseries, The Lowe Files, giving us a taste of the buoyant Parks and Recreation star that we’ve yet to experience.
The series revolves around Lowe and his sons, Matthew and John Owen, as they travel across America visiting sites associated with supernatural paraphernalia and infamous unsolved mysteries. The nine-episode first season will see the boys visiting Preston Castle (an abandoned, and reportedly haunted reformatory) with a personal shaman to summon the spirit of a murder victim, training with a top-secret government operative in the art of Remote Viewing, and exploring an alleged “alien base” located 2000 feet underwater off Malibu, CA.
But don’t knock it just yet, sceptics. Lowe and his boys have spearheaded this series with a healthy dose of their own scepticism, humour, curiosity and scientific evaluation. While Lowe admits that he grew up watching Leonard Nimoy’s In Search Of… and guiltily enjoys Ancient Aliens and Finding Bigfoot, this venture was more about making memories with his sons before they start families of their own. Isn’t that bloody adorable?

You won’t want to miss this series (and a painted Lowe banging a drum around a campfire… shirtless), catch it on The A&E Network from August 2nd. An Australian premiere date is yet to be confirmed, but we’re hoping Foxtel will be kind enough to treat us to the aforementioned footage…
