If you’ve had your head living outside of the bubble that is the Sutherland Shire (understandable) you’ve probably missed the glory that is Space 44’s ‘Sounds of the Suburbs’ (SOTS). It’s a day-long art and music festival packed into a dingy alleyway blasting the likes of DZ Deathrays, The Babe Rainbow and Holy Holy into the surrounding suburbs. With arguably their hottest lineup yet, AND news of a location change – 2017 is stacking up to be Sounds of the Suburbs biggest year yet.
After a few sold-out and seriously successful years, the organisers have abandoned their usual contingency of creeping the festival bounds into the Space 44 gallery and the Mexican bar next door, instead ripping up stumps and relocating the festival to Sutherland Carpark. The festival – true to form – will mark the start of Spring, kicking off in the afternoon of the 3rd of September,
Stretching well into the night with beers for your tastebuds, art for your eyeballs and more tunes than your earholes can handle.
It’s no surprise that SOTS seasoned veterans Skegss (try reciting that doozy aloud) are leading this year’s impressive lineup – the boys are managed by none other than the Space 44 lads – ahead of Camp Cope, Harlem (USA) and Jacuzzi Boys (USA). Special mention to local talent Ruby Fields for knicking a spot on the coveted roster following her discovery earlier in the year.
Be sure to nab a ticket with cold-blooded reptilian haste, Sounds of the Suburbs sells out super quick! With arguably the best lineup so far and a fresh location to boot – 2017 won’t be one to miss.
