French IT-girls and fashion journalists Camille Charriere and Monica Ainley tackle the concepts, images and clichés of the fashion industry to offer up an auditory behind-the-scenes exposé, ‘sans le filter.’
Quintessential cool girl, Camille Charrière has teamed up with her journalist pal Monica Ainley on a mission to debunk the clichés that claim fashion is rooted in the superficial and shed light on the ever-changing industry. The girls released their first episode just nine months ago and have gained an immense international following already.
The episodes discuss a range of issues inherent to the fashion industry; from affiliate links and Instagram influencers, to entrepreneurial models with huge social followings – it is a podcast both for and about the ‘Instagram Generation.’
Key fashion players and experts make weekly appearances on the show, sharing their expertise through informal ‘café-style’ chats with the girls. The topics feel very current and fresh, and the girls manage to cut through the noise of an oversaturated industry with a point of view that stays impartial – an attribute Charriere admits has ‘been a bit lost in fashion these days.’
Speaking to Vogue Paris, Charriere says of their aim:
“Fashion can be closed to the outside world to the point that it ends up censoring itself. We want to continue to open its doors and make it accessible, as social media has started to do by letting key industry members express themselves freely.”
Keeping things light, the girls share sneak peeks of their fashion finds, food, Instagram obsessions and travel tidbits giving the show a great energy that will have you hooked from the get go.
In the latest episode, the pair discuss Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris, following the cycle of a gown from conception to red carpet. Victor & Rolf and Iris Van Herpen both make appearances, revealing the creative process behind a haute couture gown. Staying true to their ‘behind-the-scenes’ style, Camille and Monica live-narrate their experience at Van Herpen’s dramatic show and the two discuss whether Haute Couture is an unnecessary extravagance, or the pinnacle of fashion-cum-art and as a vehicle for conveying important messages. Additionally, magazine editors, models, publicists and IT-girls weigh in their opinions on the topic.
