Last time we wrote about Dean Lewis, we pondered aloud whether his whirlwind success on the Australian music scene could be sustained with his moody melodies. Today, we’re eating our words.
Not only has Dean Lewis’ song ‘Waves’ enjoyed over 45 million streams globally, but the haunting acoustic version of the hit song just made an appearance in the mid-season finale of US TV Series Suits (S07E10, ‘Donna’). As someone who has been slowly slipping off the Suits bandwagon, I can assure you that once this article is finished I will be embarking on a cold, hard binge just to witness Dean’s glory and the inevitable sweet chills induced by his haunting track.
‘Waves’ was also featured on everyone’s guilty pleasure Riverdale, and the dark supernatural drama Shadow Hunters earlier in the year. Since it’s Australian release in 2016, ‘Waves’ has spent the entire year in the ARIA Top 40 Singles Chart before peaking at Top 10 and Top 15 on Apple Music and Spotify, respectively. The soul-wrenching track has since been certified double platinum. Dean, mate – you’re killing it!
