Thought you’d seen it all with platform Crocs and thong jeans? Think again. Italian fashion house Moschino has come out with a dress resembling a plastic dry cleaning bag. And if you fancy dressing up as your laundry, the piece is currently selling for a hot $950, which is causing exactly the kind of reaction you might expect it to.
The bag, or dress if you like, is made from 100% transparent polyester, resembling the plastic featured on dry cleaning bags. There’s been a definite favouring of transparent fabrics this season. Both Calvin Klein and Burberry showcased pretty offbeat plastic materials at their shows this fashion month, and the Chanel collection was brimming with plastic coats, capes, boots and hats.
The Jeremy-Scott designed piece made its debut on the runway at Milan Fashion Week last February, during Scott’s trash-theme A/W ’17 collection. Scott joins the ranks of designers including Balenciaga and Commes des Garcons who seem to be embracing a more aesthetically challenged look. This one may be downright bizarre, but is it really anymore repellent than a pair of platform crocs. What next…?
