Emily Ratajkowski (perhaps better known by her Instagram username ‘@emrata’) has launched her own swimwear line – and who better to model the scant garments but the queen of swimsuit-selfies, herself.
Emily, an American model and actress, rose to prominence in 2013 after appearing in the music video for Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’, which fast became the number one song of the year in several countries despite controversy over its apparent sexist content.
She has appeared in Sports Illustrated’s 2014 and ’15 swimsuit issues and has now successfully designed her own line of swimwear. So she is clearly no stranger to swimsuit and near-naked (let’s face it, oft-times nude) modelling, the genetically blessed model has bitten the bullet and monetised on her vast digital reach with the launch of her swimsuit line, Inamorata. We say, if she’s going to model swimsuits, then why not her own! And there’s no doubt that Em Rata knows her swimwear. Speaking with Vogue, she reminisces of how she basically lived in a bikini growing up,
‘When I was 16, sometimes I would literally wake up, not put on any clothes, and I’d put on a bathing suit’.
In her bikini line, the one-pieces go for $160, while the bikini’s individual pieces range from $75 to $80. The pieces are of unique design, and perfectly tailored for someone of Em Rata’s physique… which works out perfectly, since she is Inamorata‘s model.
There is no wonder, that in this sex-obsessed society, Ratajkowski has emerged as somewhat of a symbol. She has frequently been named in lists and polls that rank beauty or fashion in the media: having placed in Maxim’s Hot 100 list in both 2014 and 2015, and ranked among AskMen’s Most Desirable Women of 2014 and 2016. She is also praised for her amazing fashion sense and unique style, having made Vogue Italia’s Best Dressed List of 2015, and Harper’s Bazaar placed her on its best dressed list at the February 2016 New York Fashion Week.
From her ever growing 15.6 million followers on Instagram, to her constantly eye-opening style, Emily is one model on a mission. She is an active advocate for women’s health issues, a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, and strongly supports the right of women to express their sexuality. Talk about an all rounder!
Amazingly, Emily speaks openly of her insecurities. And yes, believe it or not, she does have them – assuring us mere humans that, ‘I, like so many of us, try every day to work past those insecurities’. Whether it be pushing through them, or calling out a French magazine for photo shopping her on the cover image. Back in September, Emily posted a before and after of an original image juxtaposed against the photo shopped version (that went to print) in which it appears editors have thinned her lips and reduced her breasts. Shocking, I know!
‘I hope the fashion industry will finally learn to stop trying to stifle the things that make us unique and instead begin to celebrate individuality’.
With the introduction of her new swimwear line, Ratajkowski showcases her ability to succeed in whatever she insists, and it looks like she’s doing a good job at it and enjoying herself along the way. When you look good and you have the right attitude, the odds will ever be in your favour.
What do you think of Emily Ratajkowski’s new swimwear line? Do you think anyone other than Em Rata can pull it off? Let us know below.
I think there are some classic pieces in there which could be worth the investment – but you best invest in a trainer first, even the one pieces are cut in at the hip or the side boob, not to say that’s a bad thing, just not for everybody’s – body! They look as expected, beautiful on the model and no doubt those in her collection will sport a similar physic to do their own take on it. Australia is a beach nation, diversity of swimwear therefore is needed in the same way we embrace multiculturalism – different is best!
