Kylie Jenner released a video on her YouTube channel this morning, titled “To our Daughter”, which documents her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter, born four short days ago on February 1st .
The video starts off with shots of Kylie’s own birth, and segues into a montage of the past year, including cuts of her ultrasounds and check-ups, spending time with family during the holidays, her baby shower, the birth of her niece Chicago West, all intercut with interviews by friends and family. A shot of her lying peacefully with her newborn daughter ends the short film.
Jenner’s pregnancy was a very secretive affair, with her unusual disappearance from the public eye sparking ridiculous rumours, such as whether she was Kim Kardashian’s surrogate, or whether she was even pregnant at all.
To accompany this, she also posted a message on Instagram, explaining why she was so secretive about her pregnancy:
She cited the reason for not sharing her pregnancy with the world was because she knew she needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime “in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way” she knew how.
“I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness.”
Although some people regard Kylie Jenner’s behaviour as problematic, this is a matter of her and her baby’s health and mental wellbeing. That she now chooses to share the joyous occasion, celebrating the birth of a baby girl and the expanding of love and family, is one that deserves respect no matter how famous or infamous she is. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. For the fans who do, give her some rope.
Kylie seems to be genuinely happy and fulfilled, and nobody – not even someone as “superficial” as her – deserves to get heat during such a fragile, momentous and stressful time of their lives.
