Little-known Aussie producer Xavier Dunn has kicked off 2018 with the release of his soul-baring and ’emotionally nakid‘ track, ‘Isic Tutor’. Having already raked in over 20 million Spotify streams for his mounting catalogue of acoustic covers and other electronic endeavours, the Sydney-based muso’s latest release is sure to attract a similar wealth of attention.
Similar to Sydney’s own self-appointed ‘Queen of Scream’, DJ and producer Alison Wonderland, Xavier was classically trained in music before diving into the vast pond of electronic music production. Having flexed his fingers as a ghost songwriter and producer, Xavier has previously worked with the likes of Nina Las Vegas, Jack River, SUPERCRUEL, Jesse Porsches, and NGHTMARE & Carmada. His acoustic covers earned him a bounty of revered chart positions: from three HypeMachine #1’s, to a slew of spots on the Spotify Global, Australian and US Viral charts – Xavier has been making sneaky waves on streaming platforms fairly unbeknownst to his local scene.
Now, Xavier has written, produced and released his first track for 2018. Self-described as an ‘ambient ear-worm’, Dunn’s explains that his new track ‘Isic Tutor’ was in part inspired by,
‘the ebbs and flows of a tumultuous relationship and in part by the strange wisdom of Isic, an AI character from the video game Battleborn.’
Directed by Cole Bennetts, the accompanying video clip portrays the idea that as much as you tug and worry at something – whether it be a relationship, or even a rubiks cube – you’ll often inevitably end up searching for answers that aren’t always there.
The all-white backdrop and attire of a singing Dunn and the film’s female protagonist instills the sense of purity borne of Dunn’s emotional vulnerability; that is, until a sensational – and somewhat soothing – cascade of polychromatic paint saturates the scene.
