Song of the Year- Ed Sheeran

Although Despacito had all the numbers to win this year’s award, after being the most listened-to song of 2017, at the end of the day Ed Sheeran always steals the show. The English songwriter took the award for the best song of the year with the catchy Shape of You. The other runners-up were Something just like this by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay, That’s what I like by Bruno Mars, and lastly Wild Thought, an original of Dj Khaled featuring Rihanna.

‘I’m in love with the shape of you. We push and pull like a magnet do. Although my heart is falling too. I’m in love with your body’ – Ed Sheeran (Shape of You)

This year the competition was really tight and included great artists from the boy’s side of competition such as the incredible Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes and the Weeknd. The Best Band of the Year – Maroon 5

Whilst bands as distinct as Imagine Dragons, Migos, Portugal. The Man, and the Chainsmokers where nominated, in the end Maroon 5 claimed the best band of the year. It was a stellar year for them with the release of Red Pill Blues, where they lost some of their old sound and Levine’s strong vocals in exchange for a more mellow and modernised version of themselves. Meanwhile, Portugal. The Man won the award for the best Alternative rock song of the year and was nominated for the best Alternative Rock artists of the year, which Imagine Dragons took home.

Best New Rock Artists of the Year – Judah & The Lion

In this category we were all surprised when Judah & The Lion won the prize; we thought the new Led Zeppelin out of Michigan, Greta Van Fleet would rock the whole show but instead the awards went to Judah & Lion with their most Mumford and Sons sounds. Other bands included in this award were The Revivalists, K.Flay and Rag’n’ Bone Man.

Best Hip-Hop Artists of the Year – Kendrick Lamar

Now, although Kendrick’s song ‘Humble’ lost to ‘Wild Thoughts’ for the hip hop song of the year, Kendrick walked out of The iHeart music awards as Hip Hop artist of the year, a category which had some huge names as nominees. Artists like Dj Khaled, Drake, Future or Migos were incapable of dethroning the king of the contemporary hip hop movement. Oh, and we forgot to mention Lil Pumps Gucci Gang was nowhere to be found.

Best Solo Breakout of the Year – Louis Tomlinson

The Drama is over! Louis Tomlinson took the award for the best breakout solo. Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan are pulling their hairs. What the fans really want to see is all of them together again, but this award will make the reunion of the British band something of an impossible mission. The only chance for One Direction to have ended the conflict of who is better than who was if Camila Cabello took the award… but that did not happen.
