Gucci and Dapper Dan have revealed their highly anticipated collection of ready-to-wear apparel and accessories.
The collection was previewed at the luxury brands’ new space on Wooster Street in New York City’s SoHo ahead of the store’s May 6 opening.
The 80s throwback capsule collaboration is made up of pieces inspired by the tailor’s Harlem heritage and reworks tracksuit and jacket styles he is known for– in Gucci’s luxury materials.
The collection features double G vinyl jacket and a tracksuit bearing the brand’s colours.
The partnership of the fashion label and the legendary Harlem tailor was announced last year following the accusation the high-end brand was copying one of Dapper Dan’s designs for Olympian Diane Dixon—a puffy-shouldered fur bomber initially emblazoned with Louis Vuitton monograms.
The brand’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele clarified that it wasn’t a copy, but rather a homage to the tailor’s work.
The Italian fashion house helped the clothing designer open an Exclusive Boutique in Harlem, whose shop was shut down in 1992 for multiple copyright infringement violations.
The Gucci and Dapper Dan capsule collection will be sold exclusively in Gucci’s new SoHo store before a wide release for the Fall/Winter season.
