One only needed to look at the nature of Alexander McQueen’s work – the inherent violence and melancholy in every piece – to see there was a deep and permeable wound at the core of the young designer. Being sexually abused by the husband of his eldest sister Janice from age nine, and having watched on various occasions when she had been beaten, McQueen’s work held an air of darkness, violence, sadness, and shock value.
