Calvin Klein / American Fashion / Designer Guides

One of the big names at NY Fashion Week is Calvin Klein, now with Raf Simons at the helm. But there was a time not long ago that the man with the name was in charge. This is his story.

In 1969 Klein was featured on the cover of American Vogue and nicknamed as “the supreme master of minimalism.” Ever since, Klein has been at the forefront of the fashion world, with his minimal, all-American fashion creations.  The American woman who is modern, young and career-driven has served as the inspiration for Klein’s designs.

Klein may have been known as the master of minimalism, but it was a another M word that really separated Klein from all other other fashion designers, and that was Marketing. Right from the get go Klein made sure that people were talking about his label. His approach to marketing campaigns was and still is a kind of ‘shock and awe’ approach. Over the years the Calvin Klein brand has given us many of the world’s most talked about campaigns.
