Matthew Williams and the Legendary Nick Knight Team Up to Collaborate on Label ‘ALYX’

Matthew Williams, also known as “Dada”, was famous for being Lady Gaga’s creative director and was a major part of The Haus of Gaga which showcased the behind-the-scenes creative team.

In his free time, he designed clothes and props for some of Gaga’s major concerts in 2008. One of his most famous props was his disco stick. His main idea behind that prop was that even in a dark room, Gaga would be the source of light. Their final projects together were the first Monster Ball Tour and “SUPREME X GAGA” and their history came to an end.

Williams moved to London in 2011 to start his work with one of the world’s most influential and visionary photographers, Nick Knight. They both went on to become really close friends and have done major works for ALYX’s lush and sumptuous print catalogues where the publications are printed on rich, metallic tracing papers in Italy.

Together they combined their styles- Knight’s exceptional photography finesse and ALYX’s styling.

After a break for 2 seasons the catalogues are back in their lavish style, featuring Knight’s photography on some of the key items, like tees and sweaters. Here’s a look through some of Williams’ catalogue which encompasses different concepts, which are now available in the ALYX store:

Fall/Winter 2016 –  “Natural Order”

Stella Lucia was the face for the FW16 prints. With the help of Williams of course, his eye for nailing the visual identities, the models are dressed, head-to-toe in ALYX, rocking biker boots and English outerwear.

ALYX Latest -Spring/Summer 2018 – “Relentless”

The very first ALYX catalogue that since the label launched menswear. Travis Scott was the face of this collection, whom, Williams met when he was working on Kanye West’s Yeezus album. This collection was more or less simple, long jackets with graphic tees underneath and the very notable cross-body bags.
