In case you’ve been living under a rock, in which case I say vacate—it’s gross and void of information, the Don’t Kill Live Music Australia rally is happening this afternoon and your presence is most definitely needed! The thousands expected will be marching, and now dancing, to protest Gladys Berejikilian’s recent overstep in regulation of festival procedure.
While most definitely a political soiree, what would a music related protest be without some of the biggest names in Australian aural pleasure? Fresh off a Triple J hottest one hundred crowning, Ocean Alley will be headlining the affair with Cloud Control, The Rubens, Dan Sultan w/ Polish Club, Urthboy & Bertie Blackman and Olympia all in toe to support our hard earned right to party.
Those voicing their opinion are some of the most established within the music community. All are seasoned and ready to give it a helluva nudge. The speakers include Yumi Stynes, Julian Hamilton (The Presets), Murray Cook (The Wiggles), Adelle Robinson (Fuzzy) and the Australian Festival Association, Michael Chugg (Chugg Entertainment) as well as City of Sydney Councillor Jess Scully and Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbury.
Launched last week, the Don’t Kill Live Music Australia organisation released an open letter to the music and culture lovers of Australia—it detailing their intensions.
“The NSW State Government is vilifying live music with knee-jerk regulation. Instead of consulting with festival experts, the NSW Government imposed punitive regulation that specifically targets music festivals and music fans. Festivals are being used as a scapegoat for years of failed drug and alcohol policy.”
The petition attached now stands at 115000 with over 11000 attending the Facebook event.
The Don’t Kill Live Music Sydney rally will be held Thursday, 21st February at the northern end of Hyde Park, from 6pm to 8pm.
BE THERE!
