Horror fans are in for a real treat over the next couple of years with two more chapters announced for the classic creepy Halloween series.
Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends are arriving in October 2020 and October 2021, respectively, Universal announced on Friday.
The news comes after the 2018 Halloween became the highest grossing installment in the history of the horror franchise, grossing more than $255 million worldwide.
As the official Halloween Twitter account announced,
“The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn’t over.”
Audience favourite Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role as Laurie Strode in the films, again coming up against the murderous Michael Myers. The creator of the franchise, John Carpenter will also be involved in both sequels.
The slasher series, which began in 1978, has produced ten titles thus far. Director David Gordon Green will again co-write with actor Danny McBride. No doubt in the hope of repeating last year’s blockbuster success story.
In 2018 McBride stated that they had originally planned to make back-to-back films, but decided instead to see how the first one fared. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly he said:
“We were like, ‘Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This could come out, and everyone could hate us, and we’d never work again. So, let’s not have to sit around for a year while we wait for another movie to come out that we know people aren’t going to like,’”
“So, we were like, ‘Let’s learn from this, and see what works, and what doesn’t.’ But we definitely have an idea of where we would go [with] this branch of the story and hopefully we get a chance to do it.”
Looks like we’re in for some sleepless nights!
