Stella McCartney celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic The Beatles film, “Yellow Submarine” (1968) and pays homage to the band in her latest collection.
Stella McCartney has taken inspiration from her dad and his legacy, with her new collection titled “All Together Now”. The collection features motifs and graphics from “Yellow Submarine” and spreads a statement of unity to a modern audience.
In a statement, McCartney shared:
“I hadn’t seen it[the film] since I was young, and honestly it blew my mind. It affected me in a way I just wasn’t expecting. Especially this idea of connecting people and bringing people together – politicially this message has never been more relevant. So, I came out and I was like ‘I have to do something.'”
“All Together Now” consists of a vibrant, graphics-based slew of pieces and styles for men, women, and children. From Pop art portraits of The Beatles members on sweaters and coats, marching band uniform style pants and jackets, vibrant psychedelic-print fur coats and dresses, to yellow submarine printed denim jeans, graphic tees, and bold shoes. Each piece is a yellow submarine dream.
With an (almost) two-decade track record of keeping it green, McCartney continues the record with this collection. Each piece has been crafted with sustainable materials – including organic cotton jersey and denim, ECONYL recycled nylon, regenerated cashmere, sustainable viscose, and 100 percent recycled cotton Breton.
Ahead of the release, Billie Eilish was seen sporting a two-piece set with Blue Meanies (main antagonists in Yellow Submarine) plastered all over, at her Glastonbury gig. The two-piece featured “Stella McCartney” in bold lettering down the side – hinting at a new McCartney release.
To capture the fun, fantasy and psychedelia of Yellow Submarine, McCartney sought out four talented musicians KEYAH/BLU, Joy Crookes, Oscar Jerome, and Femi Koleoso to feature in her campaign video. Dressed head-to-toe in the collection and interacting with graphics and characters from the film, it was quite the collab.
The full collection is now available for purchase and pre-order on Stella McCartney and in select stores.
