The 71st Emmy Awards has come around and the finest stars were spotted stunting on the purple carpet in their designer ensembles.
The annual Primetime Emmy Awards is almost always highly-anticipated not only by television enthusiasts but fashion enthusiasts too.
As the new age of television presents a wave of rising stars of the small screen and the finest stars of the big screen; all the while celebrating the best shows on television this year, fashion cannot be missed. It is an opportunity for some of the most outstanding fashion looks to come to life and this year, we’re here to give our favourite looks and trends a quick rundown.
Plunging Necklines
Dressed to impress this year, many confident stars let their plunging necklines do all the talking. A notable mention goes to Game of Thrones’ very own Emilia Clarke, effortlessly stunting to the gods in her sleek navy Valentino number.
Furthermore, I think we should all give Marin Hinkle, Jodie Comer, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and MJ Rodriguez a round of applause for braving the risky trend and doing it well. Showing a little skin never hurt anybody.
Colour Blocking: Red x Pink
Red and pink colour block gowns were hard to miss on the purple carpet. The classic V-Day combo came through in various styles and each star made it less kiddy and more chic. Taraji P. Henson shows off a lot of skin but balances it out with her sheer flowy dress by Vera Wang.
Mandy Moore, Marisa Tomei, and Susan Kelechi Watson also got the red and pink memo by serving chic V-Day realness on the carpet in their own way.
Favourite Looks Of The Bunch
Don’t get me wrong, I think every celeb that hit the purple carpet looked amazing and we all have different standards of what’s hot and what’s not. However, here’s who we think killed the carpet.
Zendaya turned heads at the event while wearing a custom Vera Wang gown in emerald green. Ditching the occasional hoodie and sweatpants combo in HBO’s Euphoria, and channelling her inner Poison Ivy, the gown compliments her tan skin and auburn hair almost all TOO well but we’re not complaining.
Kendall Jenner also attended the award show wearing a Richard Quinn Spring/Summer 2020 dress with a sculpted silhouette that mixes latex with floral. Though not everyone’s cup of tea, the edgy latex combined with soft floral prints is not an easy look to pull off, but Kendall did and she did it well. What more is there to say?
Maisie Williams serves us an edgy asymmetrical look. Designed by Reuben Selby and made by JW Anderson, the dress gives off elegance with an angsty touch and it is a complete contrast to Wiliams’ babyface. The silver jewellery and details give the outfit that extra edge and she just looks so… elegantly badass.
Billy Porter. Nothing else to say other than the fact that we all know he goes hard at every event that requires dressing up. Think back to Met Gala. He’s an icon and this look, in particular, caught my eye. Swaying away from the typical tuxedo, Porter’s sporting a Michael Kors Couture ensemble with platform shoes and an oversized Stephen Jones hat for added flair.
Of course, we could go on and on about who our favourite looks were, but we’ll keep it short and sweet.
All in all, this year’s Emmy Awards showed us that our fav celebs did not come to play. At all. Serving looks left, right and centre, we’re already anticipating next years fashion serve.
