This exhibition celebrates the Sydney that we all long for: an unbridled cultural landscape filled to the brim with rollicking music gigs and progressive politics.

Poster art experienced a renaissance of sorts in the 1970s, with advertisements for local bands, gigs, parties, albums, shows, clubs, protests and more generating an artistic and lively assortment of works. The National Art School is hosting a fabulous exhibition showing off the best these posters have to offer.

More than 200 prints are being shown, crossing the divides of social causes, art, film, theatre, feminism and gay liberation. Famous artists include Martin Sharp, Marie McMahon, (as Reg Mombassa), Paul Worstead, Chris O’Doherty and Garry Shead.

Paper Tigers celebrates a time when advertising was esoteric, experimental and unique. Sydney’s Darlinghurst is the main focus of the exhibition, diving deep into the history of the area and how much the city has changed in the decades since.

The centrepiece of the Sedition Festival aims to connect the social issues and politics still relevant today with the art scene that grew around them. This free show is curated by ex-Rolling Stone editor Toby Creswell and music writer Lesa-Belle Furhagen. Don’t miss out, the exhibition ends on the 12th of October, so get in fast!
