Everyone has seen the hit 90s movie Clueless with its witty humour, compelling story and great cast; all blended to create a memorable cinematic classic that continues to resonate with audiences despite the fact that it was released over 20 years ago. Now it seems that writers Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey want to take a different approach to the story.

Reported by Deadline, the clueless reboot will present a dramatic take on the original. Allegedly, the show will follow Cher’s best friend Dionne, following the mysterious disappearance of Cher. Dionne is now forced to balance being the most popular girl in school along with uncovering the truth about her best friend.

The potential series sounds like a mix of Riverdale and Pretty Little Liars. It’s definitely a dark take on a story that was originally so light and bubbly. Fans are likely to be unhappy about it. Despite this, major studios and streaming services are interested, with CW looking likely to pick up the series.

This isn’t the first attempt at a Clueless TV show. In 1996, The Clueless TV show hit TVs and garnered a terrible critical and fan response. Although some stars returned, the show strayed away from what fans loved about the film, resulting in a disappointment. The writers of Girls Trip also tried to get a show off the ground last year, but the script didn’t get picked up.

If this new show does go ahead, let’s hope it’s something fans can get behind.
