Sustainable Clothing Recycling: Leave it to Manrags

Spending so much time at home has lead to many of us going crazy on online orders. Whether it’s a new summer outfit that will spend the next few months hidden in a wardrobe, or a snazzy new winter coat that will be shown off the next night out, what happens to the clothes that perhaps you’ve outgrown or that don’t keep up with the latest fashion trends?

We’ve all gotten rid of clothes (or we plan to but just haven’t gotten around to doing). Some become hand-me-downs, some are donated, some are given a new life through the art of DIY customisation. Most go to landfill.

According to the ABC’s War on Waste, Australians dispose 6000 kilograms of fashion and textile waste. On average, an Australian buys about 27kgs of textiles per head per year, and disposes 23kgs per person per year. That’s about 85% of your purchases. Textile waste impacts the environment. Some fabrics even take between 20 to 200 years to fully biodegrade.

But there’s a way to minimise landfill waste: reusing, repurposing and recycling.

Encouraging people to join them, Manrags, an Australian company launched in 2016, started off as a subscription company delivering worldwide of men’s essentials. The company offers a wide range of clothing basics, including custom socks. Whether it be for him or for her, with FREE worldwide shipping, Manrags provides the perfect gift. With a high reward subscription, and the freedom to amend, skip or cancel your subscription, Manrags has 100% satisfaction guarantee, with an exclusive of replacing any lost sock for free.

Becoming a world leader in the Circular Subscription Club, Manrags took on the responsibility of life-cycling products. Together with Textile Recyclers Australia, they were successful in reusing, repurposing and recycling previously-owned socks. 550,000 socks were saved and prevented from landfill in this initiative.

Now, they have taken the lead in upcycling ALL clothing items and shoes (with the ONLY requirement that the items have to be clean). Furthermore, the organisation pledges to recycle or reuse as many products as they can distribute by 2022, having already reversed impact on landfill by 2020.

Manrags has already diverted over 60 tonnes of clothing and shoes from landfill. And you could help. By visiting the Manrags website, for just $25 (which you get back as store credit, how amazing), you can book a pick-up. Then, gather your unwanted items, book a collection time, and your package will be picked up by a courier. Not to mention, you don’t even have to leave the house!

That’s it. And now, your old clothes get a new life.

So, when was the last time you had a wardrobe declutter?
