Tiffany & Co. is the first luxury jeweller that share their full craftsmanship journey of its diamond. A commitment that offers complete transparency.
Are you the person that is curious about something you bought? Would you buy the product if you knew someone has been exploited in the manufacturing process? Unfortunately, human exploitation is a common issue in supply chains. So it is important to address where our pieces are coming from and appreciate brands that are doing the right thing.
An industry first, Tiffany & Co. will start sharing their total craftsmanship journey from October. It is an unprecedented step that will see the esteemed jeweler offering total transparency. Especially in the traceability of their individually registered diamonds. They will disclose where is the country that each stone is planned and prepared, cut and polished, and the final set in jewellery.
“Today we advance our commitment to diamond traceability one step further,” said Anisa Kamadoli Costa, the chief sustainability officer of Tiffany & Co.
This huge move follows Tiffany’s 2019 announcement. Tiffany would become that first global luxury jeweler to provide the provenance (region or countries of origin) of its diamond. Along its journey including grading and quality assurance, all these will share with customers and printed on the Tiffany Diamond Certificate. It allows us to see their ethical and conflict-free diamond in a conspicuous way.
Tiffany’s is also supporting the environment
Tiffany’s move highlighted the brand’s commitment to the industry caring about the well-being of people, but also our planet. It is not the first initiative that Tiffany impressed us with this year. Tiffany has been a joint force with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation for years. Together with a $1.4 million donation to the cause in 2018. And a few months ago, the brand shares news of its part in the reef development. Supporting an amazingly cool system that can save our coral reefs from bleaching.
“Our customers deserve to know that a Tiffany diamond was sourced with the highest standards, not only in quality but also in social and environmental responsibility. We believe that diamond traceability is the best means to ensure both,” Anisa said.
Celebrate its craftsmanship
Unlike most global luxury jewelers, Tiffany & Co. actually owns and operates five diamond polishing workshops around the world, including Belgium, Mauritius, Botswana, Vietnam and Cambodia. That’s the places for over 1500 Tiffany artisans obsessively maximise the brilliance of the diamond.
All in all, it’s not an easy approach that a company can offer this degree of supply chain transparency, an industry first among global luxury jewellers. Hopefully, this move can encourage the fashion industry to follow the example.
