Family, friends, colleagues and industry representatives are invited to farewell Musical legend Michael Gudinski in an upcoming state funeral. The memorial is being held at Rod Laver Arena on March 24.
Dan Andrews, Victoria’s state premier offered up the memorial service for the music industry behemoth.
He says, of the event:
“This unique State Memorial will celebrate that lifelong passion and honour his significant contribution to the Australian music industry and the State of Victoria,
“From the biggest names to up and coming artists, Michael’s life purpose was music.”

Born as the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants, Gudinski co-founded Mushroom Records with Ray Evans in 1972. Contributions to the music industry aside, he also published both film and television series. Some of his projects included Chopper, Wolf Creek and Molly.
Australian musician Paul Kelly told the Sydney Morning Herald that Gudinski was a friend to him,
“a great inspiration and mentor to many” in the music industry. “He lived for music and for all the people that worked in it,” Kelly said. “I didn’t think he could ever get more motivated but this past year he took it to a new level in an effort to keep Australian music alive.
“He lived and breathed for us.”
Michael Gudinski was a force of nature, catapulting the Australian music industry to new heights. His presence will be felt across the entire musical landscape.
