The last season of The Bold Type is finally arriving. While old fans are reminiscing, there are a million reasons why new fans should start watching.
It’s not every day a television series is released that is unafraid to navigate sexuality, breast cancer, workplace harassment, sexuality and gender equality. The majority of these issues are the reality for many working women. The Bold Type portrays the stories of three very different women challenging themselves to step out of their comfort zones.
The protagonists Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) all work at Scarlet Magazine, the centre location for the series. The fictional magazine fights sexism and gender stereotypes through the trio’s own personal struggles.
Previous generations grew up watching Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill. The main female characters of these shows thrived on their friend’s demise. The Bold Type couldn’t be more different. The girls have a strong sense of friendship and girl power. Although they have internal fights and disagreements, the trio never resorts to conspiring behind each other’s back. This loveable perspective towards the trio is what makes The Bold Type an inspirational watch.
Through all the ups and downs the final season will see the girls on the brink of defining who they truly are. Also how they leave their mark on the world. The streaming service Stan commented,
“Their futures are bright, but their love and support of each other will never change”
The Bold Type’s fifth and final season will air May 27th on Stan.
