Film buffs will be delighted to know that American Psycho is being developed into a TV series.
The sensational project was confirmed by Lionsgate TV Chairman Kevin Beggs during a new interview with Deadline.
“We’ve just wrapped up Dear White People which was a really good experience, Blindspotting is coming, American Psycho is in development. We’re always exploring what we can do in television with something like the Saw franchise, so that’s a conversation.”
A mashup of comedy and horror, American Psycho was originally released as book in 1991 by Bret Easton Ellis, with the thriller hitting theatre screens in the early 2000s. Lionsgate had secured plans to make a television version in 2013, but the plans were cancelled.
The classic film has a stimulating storyline, staring Christian Bale as protagonist Patrick Bateman. Bateman is a Wall Street Investment banker during the day and a psychopathic killer at night.
The main drawcard of the new series is that it will delve into Bateman’s indulgent lifestyle, and bring to light his true colours and nature. Furthermore, the story will follow Bateman’s murder investigation with assistant Edgar Allen Poe.
American Pscycho has been much-talked about since its release in 2000.
According to The Republic World,
“The movie at first received mixed reviews but soon it became a cult film and has a major fan following worldwide for its engaging plot and character development.”
Critics and publications are awestruck about the new series that is due to begin production later this year.
