Iconic luxury label Chanel has just released their new resort collection for 2022.
The fashion house released a statement last week stating that it will return to the famous setting of Carrières de Lumières for the collection. Prior to the release, Chanel released a short film that showcased the many designs.
Chanel’s 2022 resort collection features models in front of a bright limestone wall, with the reflective light emphasising several key designs. The collection is comprised of designs that invoke the mod, punk, and rock ‘n’ roll looks of the 1960s and 70s.
Creative Director of Chanel, Virginie Viard, stated the it was poet Jean Cocteau who was her inspiration for the collection. The artistic director was influenced by Cocteau, revisiting looks appealing to the younger crowd, but maintaining 60s style,
“Echoing the extreme modernity of Cocteau’s film, I wanted something quite rock. Lots of fringes, in leather, pearls and sequins, t-shirts bearing the face of model Lola Nicon like a rock star, worn with tweed suits trimmed with wide braids, and pointed silver Mary-Janes. A look that recalls the modernity of the 60s as much as that of punk.”

In addition, Viard attributed her collection to Chanel’s character by stating,
“In the end, through her friendships, It is Chanel, the woman, I love more and more: her life gives us access to characters just as extraordinary as herself.”

The Creative Director also revealed Cocteu’s influence on the designs, “The simplicity, the precision and the poetry of Cocteau’s film made me want to create a very clean collection, with a very distinct two-tone, made up of bright white and deep black.”
