We’ve got the highlights and everything you missed from the 2021 Brit Awards.
The 2021 ceremony proved to be a momentous occasion filled with jubilation.
Comedian Jack Whitehall hosted the event. With a combination of impeccable delivery, moments of attire-based humour and even an instance of lyrical jest, the comedian lit up the night.
Little Mix
Little Mix made history, becoming the first girl group to win the ‘British Group’ Award. As part of their acceptance speech, the band thanked fans, members of their promo, management, as well as day-to-day teams, and Jesy Nelson.
Originally a quartet, the group rose to fame after their win on series 8 of Britain’s the X-Factor in 2011. However, earlier this year, Jesy Nelson announced her departure from the group.
Little Mix looked ethereal, donning dresses by renowned designers and brands. Leigh-Anne Pinnock wore Maison Margiela, whilst Jade Thirwall appeared in a Vivienne Westwood creation. Perrie Edwards graced the red carpet in attire from the David Koma Spring/Summer 2021 Ready to Wear collection.
Commenting on their win were members from a fellow iconic girl group. Spice Girls Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell took to social media to offer their congratulations. Additionally, Geri Halliwell, whose Spice Girl persona Ginger Spice wore a Union Jack dress praised Dua Lipa for performing in a similar attire.
Performers
Dua Lipa sang a medley of songs from her second studio album ‘Future Nostalgia’. The songwriter achieved the award for ‘British Female Solo Artist’. Meanwhile, her album won ‘British album of the Year’.
Olivia Rodrigo also performed for the event. The young star took to the stage to deliver a heartfelt rendition of her song ‘Driver’s License’.
Griff displayed remarkable skill while performing one of her compositions. The artist later acquired the accolade for ‘Rising Star’.
Other award winners for the night include J Hus for ‘British Male Solo Artist’, Arlo Parks for ‘Breakthrough Artist’, and Taylor Swift for ‘Global Icon’.
Red Carpet and Attendees
On the red carpet, nominees and presenters alike displayed an impressive array of ensembles. Olly Murs donned a snappy red-wine suit, whilst Adam Lambert wore a grey animal-print suit from Dolce & Gabbana. One of Griff’s outfits was reminiscent of rain.
Alongside the artists, Key Workers from the Greater London area were in attendance. Around 2500 tickets were gifted to workers as part of the government’s live events pilot scheme.
