After last year’s much-awaited tour succumbed to the pandemic, My Chemical Romance have announced new dates for 2022.
The band, headed by rock-royalty Gerard Way, will be touching down in Australia in March next year. The tour marks ten long years since their last visit, when they played Big Day Out back in 2012.
MCR debuted in 2002 with the album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, and signed to Reprise Records a year later. Their following albums, 2004’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and 2006’s The Black Parade, are both now 3x certified Platinum. The band encapsulated the mood of a generation, generating life-long fans across the globe.
Speaking recently on his changing performance style, Gerard Way said,
“Something that I tried to do, and this was conscious, was relinquish some control…
“My goal at [that show] was not to direct the audience to do anything,” he added. “To let them do what they naturally wanted to do. It became less of working a crowd, as they say, or being an entertainer. To me, the new version of My Chemical Romance and the way I want to go about it is exercising less control.”
