Undercurrent, an upcoming audiovisual event, is set to debut and bring further awareness to charities fighting the climate crisis.
Undercurrent is an immersive, audiovisual event that will bring together over 40 artists to present personal installations that hope to inspire a positive impact surrounding the climate crisis. The Jefferson in Brooklyn NYC is where the event will be held, occupying a 60 000 foot exhibition space. This comes after 3 years of planning and preparation by the organisers. It also comes after growing frustrations surrounding the lack of official acknowledgement to help solve the growing climate crisis.
Grimes and The 1975 have also recently been added to the list of artists who will have their works featured. They will be supporting artists such as Bon Iver, Jorja Smith, and Miguel. Grimes shared her thoughts on joining the event, saying in a public statement that will accompany her artwork,
“If we don’t protect the environment the future of consciousness will be artificial, not biological. Would mental health and wellness even be relevant in a world where emotions aren’t an evolutionary advantage?”
Bon Iver also made a public statement for the event, stating,
“[I] just want somebody to walk out changed and to be thinking about things outside of the normal concepts that they’re usually worried about. We want them to walk out having a wider perspective on the meaning of life and what we can leave behind.”
In particular, Undercurrent will be highlighting the efforts made by non-profits involved in the fight against climate change: Kiss the Ground, Ocean Conservancy, and Global Forest Generation.
Undercurrent will take place from September 9th-26th, with tickets available on Undercurrent’s website. Watch the trailer for the event below.
