Fashion and art come together in Valentino Haute Couture this season. Hosted in Venice, the Roman Maison presents ballgowns, jellyfish hats and luxurious cashmere in a full spectrum of colour.
Valentino’s AW21 Couture collection realistically translates substantial artistic concepts into expertly guided avant-garde. It’s been over a year since Covid hit and only now, are we getting a full sense of fashion’s innovative response to the pandemic. Pierpaolo Piccioli has spent hours of his time at Valentino during the Rome lockdowns with his atelier over the last 12 months. This time in isolation has inspired the designer to apply his brainpower, resulting in a new concept of casual couture. Valentino’s Autumn/Winter 2021 Haute Couture collection,
“brings art into discussion with fashion, transmuting surfaces, animating works into motion,” according to the Maison.”

A Fresh and Youthful Perspective
Pierpaolo Piccioli, the Maison’s creative director, pays homage to the city of Venice in his “Valentino Des Ateliers” collection. Since joining the Maison in 2008, Piccioli maintains a fresh and youthful perspective thru each oncoming collection.
Piccioli works in collaboration with 16 contemporary artists to authentically reflect the brand’s youthful sentiment. He brings a group of painters of all ages, backgrounds, and aesthetic inclinations into the Atelier to successfully merge fashion and artistic disciplines.
“According to the team at Valentino, one of the few houses that many consider capable of bridging the two, they’re “creative practices that respond to different purposes – one linked to the body and movement, the other completely free from constraints of sorts.”

By Nightfall
The Valentino AW21 Couture presentation takes its residence in Venice by nightfall; presenting a genuine rainbow of colour, texture, and silhouettes to the Arsenale of the Floating City, home to the world-famous art and architectural Biennales.
The attending audience wears all-white. The show’s victorious finale is timed perfectly with the day’s sunset. The seasonal palette is tremendously intense. Ostrich plume hats and pencil skirts feature in lavender, ivory, and maroon. There are slashed cashmere capes with draperies in lilac and Sienna, pencil skirts in lilac, ivory, and burgundy.
Valentino, one of the most unashamedly couture of couture labels, develops a sense of absolute rigour and romanticism throughout the whole 84-look show. The range on display is what makes this AW21 Couture collection most remarkable. The juxtaposition of unrestrained fantasy is complemented by items that read as completely realistic.
