Rihanna has teamed up with the all-Black Female biker gang, Caramel Curves, to promote her latest Savage x Fenty Lingerie line.
Caramel Curves are part of the new Summer Campaign for singer Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty line. The all-Black Female biker gang is based in New Orleans and were approached by the singer to model the new lingerie collection. The collaboration with Caramel Curves was a way to “show the world what being a badass boss is all about, while bringing sexiness along for the ride”.
While the collaboration was a welcome surprise, co-founders Shanika “Tru” Beatty and Nakosha “Coco” Smith were not out of their comfort zone with the lingerie pieces. They told Vogue that “We are always blinging and glistening. Anything [with] sequins, rhinestones – we’re going to wear it”.
They also take note of the men that criticise their fashion choices and the ‘disregard’ they have for their safety. Coming home safely obviously matters to the women. But Coco simply did not like how regular clothing fit with her aesthetic. “I always wore sparkly, blingy stuff all the time… I’m never going to look regular.”
“I’ve watched a million men fall that had no heels on, so having on heels can’t be too bad. Maybe they need to try some heels.”
Other members were also involved in the Savage X Fenty Shoot, including President Andrea “Hoodpriss” Shepherd, Tierra “Choosy” Thomas, Kimberly “Karma” Gilbert, and Dezel “First Lady Foxy” Haynes.
Caramel Curves were especially appreciative of Savage X Fenty‘s approach to body inclusivity and positivity. “You could tell that they put a lot of thought into making it for plus-sized women because that’s what’s hard to find; lingerie that fits good on a plus-sized woman,” says Smith. “They definitely knew where to put material at, and where none was needed.”
The collection is available for sale on the SavageX website.
