Timothée Chalamet has given fans a first look into his role as Willy Wonka.
On Sunday, Chalamet shared a photo of himself on the set of the upcoming movie-musical “Wonka” in the classic Willy Wonka silhouette donning a purple velvet jacket, patterned scarf, and a brown top hat to complete the look.
Referencing a line from the 1971 film adaptation of the classic children’s novel, where Wonka was played by Gene Wilder. Chalamet wrote alongside the first look on Instagram:
“The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last…”
Based on characters created by Roald Dahl, this one chronicles the early years of the eccentric chocolatier. It will include musical numbers written by The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon.
Paddington 2‘s Paul King will direct the film. He has co-written alongside Simon Farnaby.
The cast includes big names like Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, and Matt Lucas.
And the hustle and bustle of the set has certainly livened up the small English town of Lyme Regis, Dorset. Councillor Daryl Turner commented,
“The town as a whole has fully embraced them [the film crew], they are fantastic news for the town.
“There’s so much activity, I’ve never seen so many people actually working on a set like this. When we had Ammonite here a couple years back it was nothing like the scale of this production.”
The film hits cinemas on 17 March 2023.
