A year after their departure from Batwoman, Ruby Rose has spoken out against the dreadful working conditions on set.
Ruby Rose has properly detailed their reasons for leaving Batwoman. On their Instagram story, they stated that they were forced to continue working after receiving multiple injuries on set.
Unsafe Conditions
The injuries included a neck injury and a “cut in the face so close to my eye in a stunt I could have been blind”. In response to audiences saying that Rose’s acting was very stiff, they replied:
“To everyone who said I was too stiff on batwoman, imagine going back to work 10 days after this… 10 DAYS!!!!!! (or the whole crew and cast would be fired and I’d let everyone down because Peter Roth said he wouldn’t recast and I just lost the studio millions (by getting injured on his set) that is be the one who cost so many people their jobs. Instead of spending half a day to rewrite me out for a few weeks to heal).”
Injuries were also sustained by the production crew. Rose stated that one person was left a paraplegic, and another with 3rd-degree burns. The show’s continuous production through the COVID pandemic was also a cause of concern for Rose. While they had sent in multiple requests for safer working conditions and changes to rules on set, they were ultimately ignored.
Misconduct Allegations
Rose also accused Roth, who had left Warner Bros, of sexual misconduct. She stated: “Not sure if you left after getting promoted to the highest position because you just couldn’t stop making young women steam your pants around your crotch – while you were still wearing said pants – or if you left after putting a private investigation on me, who you fired as soon as the report didn’t fit your narrative”.
Warner Bros released a statement in response to Rose’s allegations, refuting some of the claims.
“Despite the revisionist history that Ruby Rose is now sharing online aimed at the producers, the cast and crew, the network and the studio, the truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise its option to engage Ruby for season two of ‘Batwoman’ based on multiple complaints about workplace behavior that were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned.”
Many were stunned by Rose’s initial departure from the show, the first show to focus on a lesbian superhero. However, many are now calling on the CW to give much-needed support to production crews still on the show.
