Actor Sean Penn has actively condemned Vladimir Putin, thanking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a statement yesterday.

“Already a brutal mistake of lives taken and hearts broken, and if he doesn’t relent, I believe Mr. Putin will have made a most horrible mistake for all of humankind,”

Penn says. He later posted his comments to Twitter.

Penn’s arrival in Kyiv last week was met with a welcome response from the Office of the President of Ukraine. A translated statement from the official Facebook page says,

“American actor and film director, Oscar winner Sean Penn arrived in Ukraine… The director came to Kyiv specifically to record all the events taking place in Ukraine as a documentary filmmaker and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country.

“Today, Sean Penn is among those who support Ukraine in Ukraine,” the statement adds.

Since his arrival, Penn has been spotted during a news conference at the presidential office. He has also met with presidential adviser Alexander Rodnyansky of Ukraine whilst documenting the crisis.

Zelenskyy’s Instagram account showed the 44-year-old having a conversation with Penn via an Instagram Story. “The more people know about the war in the Ukraine, the higher the likelihood of stopping Russia!” the caption stated.
