Tragic Death of Brandon Lee

The story of the late Brandon Lee is truly tragic and shocking. On March 31, 1993, Brandon Lee, the 28-year-old actor and son of martial artist Bruce Lee, was killed after a co-star fired a prop gun that contained a real bullet while filming.  The entire scene was a total accident. He and his co-star Micheal Massee, who played ‘Funboy’, were filming a scene.

Massee was led to believe the prop gun was loaded with blanks. No-one knew the top of the cartridge was lodged with dummy bullets that had been improperly manufactured from live ammunition weeks before. When he fired it hit Lee in the abdomen with the same intense force as a live round. He was rushed to emergency and went through six hours of surgery, which led to his heart failure. Director Ruper Sanders says of the project,

“The Crow is beautiful, dark, poetic and sometimes disturbing… It is a story of love, loss, grief and revenge. It is a great honor to revisit James O’Barr’s iconic comic and reimagine The Crow as a foreboding voice of today.”

The plot follows Eric Draven, a young man that comes back to life a year after he and his fiancee are murdered. With the black crow on his shoulder throughout, it guides him to the killers he seeks revenge upon. A dark, twisted revenge scheme bringing darkness and horror to those in his wake.

He resembles a pale figure who almost draws parallels to ‘the joker’, with his sinister, machiavellian makeup. At the root of the horror hit list Draven goes on throughout the plot, O’Barr makes it clear that love never dies. This action / fantasy / thriller is a truly important piece of cult film history.
