This is the Future

This Prada Time Capsule is putting 100s of NFTs onto Ethereum’s blockchain, affording every owner of the limited edition merchandise an additional layer of exclusivity. Thus, it seems NFTs are embracing the value of the blockchain. It offers a world where everything can be valued and exchangeable.

“This unlocks the potential for value to be recognised,” says digital artist and creative coder Zach Liberman who also worked for Prada on it’s first collaborative, community-centred NFT project ‘Re-Source’ with Adidas earlier in January this year.

With the inevitability of an increasingly augmented reality, it is clear that the push towards catering to the digital fashion experience is one that is under consideration by most big brands. Some, such as Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton already traverse the world of NFT’s and the web3 space. They are at the forefront, making efforts to align their work practice with the values of an increasingly automated, virtual future.

As writer and analyst Lavinia Fasano reports to Wired, “It could represent a seismic shift in the way that we understand luxury, scarcity and value.” Thus, leading to question what the future of fashion will look and feel like in ten years time.

In essence, it’s necessary to consider how blockchain technology might dramatically influence how we participate with and think about fashion. How does it serve to reshape out understanding of value? In its entirety – is it for better or for worse?
