YU FUJIWARA EXPLORES THE HIGH FASHION STREET STYLE OF 2022

In the heat of Milan Fashion Week’s menswear season, multiple icons took the fashion capital by storm. London-based fashion photographer, Yu Fujiwara, is presenting them all to us in an exploration of 2022 so far.

From Versace to Fendi to Valentino, there’s been a lot going on in 2022. However, it is the street style that steals the spotlight this year. Yu Fujiwara is a London- based photographer and contributor at Dazed and Confused, T-Magazine, W magazine and Farfetch.

“It’s been about two-and-a-half years since I’ve attended a men’s fashion week in June and I was keen to see what COVID had changed in both Milan and Pitti,” Fujiwara explains.

“Many big maisons were absent from this season’s roster so I found myself on the outskirts of smaller shows with a more interesting crowd in attendance”.

According to Dazed, “to approach street style photography in this way is to lay bare fashion week for what it is: a big, glossy, trade show.”

And this year, the streets are full of bold colours, patterns, graphics, oversized looks. Attendees are generally dripping in Fendi, Prada and Gucci. These fashion devotees stay true to the summer-ready, casual silhouette. Per HYPEBEAST,

“Simple pairings including an electric green mesh Prada tank top… with classic trousers is an example of the comfort-focused and heat-ready outfits seen during fashion week.”

“Gucci was well-represented in accessories as showgoers showed off their best bags and sunglasses from the latest collection.”

From Fujiwara’s snaps of skunk-hair, to selfie-taking tourists, and Pitti Uomo’s newgen peacocks, it’s hard to know what the best streetwear takeaway trends of 2022 are.

Growing in popularity, are streetwear collaborations and brand crossovers. There’s a lot of Nike on display this year, for example.

But perhaps our favourite is the highly popular Gucci x Adidas collection. Throughout, classic greens, reds, and creams find pairing with matching bottoms. It’s easy on the eyes – plus, the textured silhouettes continue to offer street-style with an additional dose of detail.
