The next step for Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga – the “creative exploration” fronted by Demna and the artist formerly known as Kanye West. Is the Yeezy collaboration over for good?
A report released by the New York Times, dissecte the collab in its making. In this exploration piece, the style editors at the Times, Vanessa Friedman, Jessica Testa and Sapna Maheshwari sourced quotes from Balenciaga‘s creative director Demna, throughout this month’s in-store roll out of YEEZY GAP ENGINEERED BY BALENCIAGA.
“Balenciaga’s work on the project is now over, and he’s not sure what will happen next.”
But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean the end for the collection. Although the making of the collection has stopped, the pieces will still be seeing a proper release and restock.
Future Yeezy Opportunities
Despite this fall-out, Demna still has hope that a different “Engineered” opportunity will present itself as he continues to set the tone for future collaborations with the coveted brand.
As per the NYT, it appears that the rapper’s brand will be “heading in a different direction” as a new chapter is written for Yeezy. And maybe it is for the best. The partnership is a market sensation, gaining exclusive coverage and attention across the globe. Although Demna told the NYT what it was like working with Ye.
“This was just step No. 1. He needed a starting point, and that was my challenge: to give him the starting point. But he is still miles and miles away from where he wants this to go.”
“With the releases happening in the past few days, including YEEZY GAP’s weekend van drop, the brand shows no signs of stopping. It remains to be seen what Ye has planned for the brand in the coming seasons as he continues to grow his fashion empire,” as per the New York Times.
