K-pop fans are bursting with the announcement that BLACKPINK is putting together another Adidas collaboration. Collaboration number three is coming up later in 2022.
What can we anticipate from the Adidas x BLACKPINK partnership? What we can only guess to be a sweet treat of streetwear apparel. Fans of K-Pop, BLINK, sneakers, and tracksuits, we’re looking at you.
BLINK Backlash
BLACKPINK first partnered up with the shoe giant in 2020 for the “Change Is a Team Sport” promo. It kicks off with a film directed by and starring Jonah Hill, which also includes members of the Adidas family of creators.
The movie follows skater Jenn Soto as she navigates a building where artists from many eras and disciplines come together to fight for change. The campaign also stars American actress Yara Shahidi (Black-ish), Jonah Hill (Superbad), Ninja Blevins, and Pharrell Williams.
Next up, in 2021, BLACKPINK fronted a second Adidas campaign, “Watch Us Move,” in addition to an activewear collection.
The gang has previously sported black and pink streetwear and tracksuits with the unmistakable Adidas triple stripe. We may expect similar themes in their most recent cooperation because the band previously approved of sneakers, socks, and beanies. Of course, Lisa walked the Celine show, and Jennie worked with Chanel, so cooperation with and love for brands are nothing new for the girls of BLACKPINK.
However, BLACKPINK’s audience, known as BLINKs, are unhappy with Jisoo’s exclusion from sections of Adidas’ advertising material. The group’s loyal fandom brought the hashtags #AdidasTreatJisooBetter and #AdidasApologizetoJisoo to social media to vent their frustration.
BLINKs are reminding Adidas that they will not take Jisoo’s erasure lightly as Adidas develops its yet “unspecified” partnership with BLACKPINK.
A recent Instagram post from Adidas Originals also had a number of comments from BLINK’s advising the company to respect the musician.
The impending BLACKPINK and Adidas collaboration has no set release date, but their new album arrives this Friday, August 19.
