Not long after the death of Australian icon, Olivia Newton-John, news has broken that another one of Australia’s singers has been diagnosed with cancer.
After an 11-hour surgery yesterday, John Farnham’s wife reveals in a statement this morning that a tumour growing on the inside of John Farnham’s mouth has been removed successfully. According to Jill Farnham, “John has been through an eleven and a half hour surgery in Melbourne yesterday and is now in a stable condition in ICU.”
Messages of Love and Hope
The news of the singer’s diagnosis shocked the nation yesterday morning, but throughout this time of darkness, messages of love and support have been flooding in. This morning’s statement from the Farnham family reads,
“we are genuinely overwhelmed by the incredible wave of support, love and messages we have received from so many people around Australia.”
It goes on to state that, “This means so much to us as a family. Thank you to everyone for this. John will be blown away.”
This statement includes words from John Farnham’s wife, Jill, revealing the information that the country has been waiting for – the type of cancer.
“The cancer tumour was located in his mouth and it has been successfully removed.”
“There is still a long road of recovery and healing ahead of us, but we know John is up for that task.”
And the family didn’t fail to acknowledge the doctors, medical workers and surgical team that had been involved, in Farnham’s journey, thanking them for their work. Rob and James Farnham say,
“We are in awe of the incredible teams of healthcare professionals who have guided us through this very challenging time with such compassion. All of you undertook this big job and have given us a magnificent outcome. To all the surgeons, doctors, nurses and consultants – thank you one and all so very much.”
He will always be the Voice
John will remain in hospital for a period of time for recovery and post-operative treatment. No further comment is available at this time and the family appreciates the media’s continued respect of their privacy. Farnham’s diagnosis has prompted an abundance of wishes and support from all over the globe. The main message – He is the voice.
“I haven’t spoke with him since his diagnosis but it was a big surprise for us as well for him,” Farnham’s friend, Lindsay Field tells a reporter from 9News.
“He was here for lunch three weeks ago and it was lovely, there was no suspicion at that time of this.
“Anyone you love and care for, you have a concern for their well-being.”
Australian music critic, journalist, record producer and musical entrepreneur, Molly Meldrum, also sent the singer best wishes for his operation and recovery.
“He has been a friend of mine for a very long time, and we have been through lots in that time,” he tells 9News.
“He is the voice, there is doubt about that and he will always be the voice.”
Founding member of American rock-band, KISS, Paul Stanley, also supported to singer, posted to social media, “John… You ARE the voice!!! We are all sending you our prayers, energy and light for a full recovery.”
