For Alix Higgins, coming from the small town of Otford, the concept of fashion came very late. But he’s making up for lost time – and with each new submission, we see an indication of his future plans.
Fashion Journal team describes Alix Higgins as,
“a Tumblr-trawling teen, so it’s no surprise his eponymous label leans heavily on futuristic digital prints that’ll make you feel like you’re trapped inside the metaverse. His form-fitting garments toe the line between party wear and poetry, and come printed with typography to spark both conversations and imaginations. The gender-fluid pieces are an escapist’s delight, soaked in bright colours, distorted patterns, and cyber-delic designs.”
He studied at UTS and Institut Français de la Mode. He also had an intimate stint as a print designer at Marine Serre. Now, Higgins is starting to show his colour. He is truly worth watching.
Higgins made his runway debut at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week in May with a resort collection titled ‘Gift From The Fall’. This month, he showed a selection of his designs at Melbourne Fashion Week, and he was nominated for the 15th Australian Fashion Laureate as Emerging Designer of the Year, shortlisted alongside Jordan Gogos, Jordan Dalah and Lesleigh Jermanus of Alemais.
On the influence by digital culture and internet Alix Higgins says,
“When I was working on my graduate collection I was writing poetry about myself on the internet and my identity, and exploring my own identity, and it just kind of made sense that these things meld into one. The image, and the text, and the body all kind of become one thing.”
