The coronation of King Charles III was a momentous occasion that captured the attention of people all over the world. Along with the grandeur and pageantry of the event, the outfits worn by the royal family members also garnered much attention.
Unsurprisingly, each outfit at King Charles III’s coronation showcased a unique blend of tradition, elegance, and modernity. From the stunning white silk dress worn by the Queen Consort to Princess Charlotte’s adorable mini-tiara, it was clear that each ensemble had been carefully chosen to make a statement and leave a lasting impression. We’ll take a closer look at the enchanting outfits worn by the royal family members at King Charles III’s coronation.
Queen Camilla
Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles III, wore a white silk dress designed by Bruce Oldfield for the coronation. The dress featured embroidery with flowers such as daisy chains, forget-me-nots, celandine, and scarlet pimpernel. According to a palace statement, the embroidery was meant to represent the King and Queen Consort’s affection for nature and the British countryside.
The front hem of Camilla’s dress also featured a rose, thistle, daffodil, and shamrock to represent England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, respectively. This embroidery was a symbol of unity and solidarity among the countries that make up the United Kingdom.
In addition, Queen Camilla wore the Coronation Necklace, a 22-carat diamond pendant necklace that was gifted to Queen Victoria in 1858. The necklace, comprised of 25 cushion diamonds, was also worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation in 1953.
Consequently, The Royal Collection Trust describes the necklace as “one of the most magnificent jewels in the collection.”
Princess Catherine of Wales
We were able to witness Kate Middleton in traditional robes. The Alexander McQueen dress under the traditional robes had all eyes on her. The dress was nothing short of magnificent, featuring a mesmerising array of floral embroidery that captured the essence of the United Kingdom’s national flora.
The gown featured embellishments of roses for England, thistles for Scotland, daffodils for Wales, and shamrocks for Ireland, which added a touch of regality and sophistication to her look. With a floor-length design, the dress perfectly complemented her demure style, which she has elegantly embraced since taking on the role of Princess of Wales and future queen consort.
Evidently, she infused her personal style into the ensemble by accessorising with matching heels and a stunning headpiece crafted in collaboration with milliner Jess Collett.
Intricate leaf designs adorned the headpiece, adding an extra touch of elegance to the overall look. It was a moment that showcased Kate’s impeccable sense of style and her ability to seamlessly merge traditional and modern elements.
Additionally, Kate Middleton honoured Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II with her jewellery. She wore a pair of pearl-and-diamond earrings that belonged to Diana, as well as a three-strand diamond necklace that belonged to Queen Elizabeth. This gesture paid tribute to two influential women in the royal family’s history.
Princess Charlotte
Excitingly, Princess Charlotte made her debut wearing a tiara for the first time at an official event. The eight-year-old looked lovely in her McQueen ensemble, which perfectly matched her mother’s attire. Her charming headpiece was a mini-sized version of Kate’s stunning creation.
Intricate embroidery adorned Princess Charlotte’s white cape matching her dress. Ballet pumps complemented the look and helped mirror the motifs on her mother’s dress. Overall, it was a delightful sight to see the mother-daughter duo in matching outfits. They exuded grace and charm at the grand event.
Prince Harry
However, Prince Harry opted for a more subdued outfit at King Charles III’s coronation. He is no longer a working member of the royal family, therefore cannot wear military uniform. He donned morning dress and sported a star around his neck. On top of that, he has an array of service medals on his medal bar.
Harry also did not wear a military uniform at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.
Unfortunately, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, did not make an appearance at the coronation. Rumours suggest she opted to stay home to celebrate Archie’s birthday.
