This summer, Pharrell Williams debuts his first Louis Vuitton collection at Paris Fashion Week. After a lengthy wait and heavy speculation, the runway show takes place at 8:30 p.m. on June 20. This is a move that marks the next phase of his illustrious career.
Pharrell Williams is finally debuting his first collection as creative director of Louis Vuitton. He first took the role in February of this year, following the untimely death of former artistic director Virgil Abloh in November 2021. In less than a month, we can finally see where the House is heading under Pharrell’s leadership.
According to the provisional schedule, Pharrell is set to open up the show this time around. And the rapper, singer, producer and now menswear creative director’s first collection is one of the most highly anticipated creative debuts of 2023; delivered under the artistic direction of Nicolas Ghesquière.
“Pharrell Williams is a visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion – establishing himself as a cultural global icon over the past twenty years,”
LV’s Instagram announcement reads.
“The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores, aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit, and entrepreneurship.”
Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO, Pietro Beccari, says in a statement: “I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”
Overall, the fashion calendar event includes 43 shows and 38 speeches this time.
The Rest of the Programme
Elsewhere, tentpole names like Rick Owens, Givenchy, Dior, Loewe, Hermès and Ludovic de Saint Sernin appear on the schedule. Notably, after Rhuigi Villaseor left Bally, his main brand, Rhude, is back on the programme; after deciding not to show at Men’s PFW in 2022. Other than that, Saint Laurent and Celine aren’t on the list. Saint Laurent is showing its men’s collection in Berlin on June 12th. Celine is yet to announce.
